This is just a highlight of a very cool house I had the opportunity to photograph on behalf of AirBnB.com and thought I would share since it is some of my more impressive interior work to date.
You can find the full listing on the airbnb website after the link below!
It was a 3000 square foot modern masterpiece built upon a hillside overlooking beautiful Lake Okanagan as shown in the first image. This shoot presented a significant set of challenges that made it a little more fun than the average bed and breakfast listing I am sent to.
Imagine midday sun with south facing walls that most of which are ceiling to floor glass, without any form of covering/blinds/curtains. More modernly it has become acceptable to allow windows to blow out to ensure a nicely exposed interior in a photo, but when they take up this much of the frame you better nail their exposure. So I needed strategic placement of flashes that would light the shadow areas of a room evenly, without showing their location in a window whenever possible.
Due to the brightness of the house, with the midday light and fill from my flashes, I easily could have handheld the entire shoot with an aperture at f/8-9 throughout, however there was a lot of tweaking of the lighting involved and once I locked on a composition for a room, I opted not to give it up each time I wanted to check my exposure. Hope you enjoyed the look at a recent shoot, and the insight into how I do an interior shoot and the calibre of work I can provide. Thanks for reading.
