The Difference a Few Days Makes

Fall. Blink and you may miss the colours change.  I used to try to fly home from the west for the changing of the leaves, but it's always peaking at slightly different times of the year, and is not around for long when it does happen.   This post will show you a before and after style comparison of just how quickly it can go from a late summer feel to a deep fall feel.


The first photo is our before photo, obviously. October 7th, a nice sunset view shot from the end of the driveway.   I shot this because I liked the light, not because I had this before and after type of post in mind for later. I didn't even know how soon the leaves would be changing when I shot this.

Fast forward ten days, October 17th, and there you go; the photo you see below. The same maple in a deep orange-yellow photographed at the same time of day. If I had a photo of one day later, you wouldn't even see most of those beautiful yellow leaves because the wind has pulled them down already.

I actually never realized myself just how quickly this sort of thing happened, which has helped me make a plan for next fall - two weeks next October with no plans but free time to chase the peak of the change as it travels across this part of our beautiful province of Ontario.
